The first time I illustrated my friend & model/blogger/actor/influencer Nikia Phoenix was a few years ago when I did a few digital illustrations of her by commission. Although I love those illustrations, there is something very pure and beautiful about grabbing my sketchbook and illustrating someone by hand. The coolest challenge about this illustration was rendering her freckles!
Because I’m a self-taught illustrator I rely on trial end error, a lot! No one taught me how to do freckles. In fact, the first time I ever attempted freckles by hand was when I sketched my friend Jasmine just last week. Needless to say, I anticipated a little trial and error here. I will say, however, I think I did Nikia’s lovely freckles justice.
Only one try necessary!
